BEMS abbreviation means - Building Energy Management System
BMS abbreviation means - Building Management System
A Building Energy Management System (BEMS) is a computer-based control system installed in buildings that controls and monitors the building's mechanical and electrical equipment such as ventilation, lighting, power systems, fire systems, and security systems. A BMS consists of software and hardware; the software program, usually configured in a hierarchical manner, can be proprietary, using such protocols as C-bus, Profibus, and so on. Vendors are also producing BMS's that integrate using Internet protocols and open standards such as DeviceNet, SOAP, XML, BACnet, LonWorks and Modbus.
An Energy Management System describes a BMS which is Optimized, Managed, Bench Marked and Monitored from an Energy Usage prospective. Many BMS Systems in the market place today are not setup or maintained to ensure that they are efficient and also being used to reduce or sustain energy consumption levels, that's why we use the term BEMS rather than BMS. All BMS's have the potential to be a BEMS.
